Day as an NGO Support Volunteer. Thursday October 10th, 2024
23 October 2024
After having breakfast in the volunteer house, Bego, Santiago and I worked for a few hours editing UBECI’s new webpage and creating new videos for our social media accounts. Right now, we are making content to advertise UBECI’s volunteer programs and attract more volunteers! We also used this time to determine what other content we need to get from the markets when we go later in the day.
After lunch, we started heading to the market along with Valery, Jennifer, and Amanda. The market we worked at this afternoon is called Sangolqui, and it took about an hour and two buses to get there. It was raining pretty hard once we arrived, so we quickly collected the children from their stalls and ran over to the classroom. We always begin our workshops with a welcome song and dance as an icebreaker and to get the children excited for the day! After this, we taught the children about different emotions through an arts and crafts activity. We also did some different reading, math and coloring exercises with them. During this time, we also took some pictures and videos for the UBECI social media accounts. After 3 hours, we drop the children back with their mothers, then start heading home!
In the evening, all of us volunteers went to get some ice cream and played card games before heading to bed!
